The Telford Residence
Contractor: JC Wilding & Co.
This 2500sf Addition and Remodel to a charming Spanish Revival home in La Jolla was originally built for the owner’s family in the 1920’s. Having grown up in the home, the current owners wanted to retain as much of its original character as possible.
Responding to this desire, the addition was designed to maintain the original front façade. The majority of the addition occurs at the back of the home, and steps down with the existing topography, thereby reducing the impact of the addition at the street elevation.
The addition included a new Master Bedroom Suite, two-story volume Library, an additional Book Storage area with mobile shelving and Home Office for Mr. Telford. Taking over an existing bedroom on the first floor, the Kitchen and Dining Room were enlarged. An existing accessory building, which holds special memories for the Mrs. Telford, was rehabilitated for her Home Office. The design incorporated ample wall surfaces and niches for their art collections. The Library includes floor to ceiling book shelving and a rolling library ladder.
Green building features include a solar panel water heater, cotton insulation, low-e dual glaze windows and lyptus wood.
